Holiday Gallery (August, 2005)

Welcome to our holiday gallery

This is a first year that we took 3 complete weeks for our holydays.
First 2 weeks were spent in Slovakia and the last one in Italy (Grado).

Slovakia: Kosice our home town was considered as a BaseCamp. From
here we did several trips:

Pieniny - Dunajec river. It was amazing to sail on wooden historical
raft.

Another advanture was Katka's parent cottage in Smolnik.

In Italy we started with quite bad weather. That’s why we visited Trieste, Slovenian cave:
Postojnska jama and small island
Barbana

I tell you - it was so difficult to come back into a Vienna. But we managed and now we are taking energy from these 3
weeks.

SK - Smolnik

Town in forest.

The small town is located 50km from Kosice. It is a very old mining town based by German colonists. Mines are closed but "Germans" called Mantacs are still living there. Today most of the houses are used as cottages now.
This was probably our best holiday time. We spent several days in the forest (Volovske vrchy - Hekerova, Pipitka) looking for mushrooms. They hided so much that we couldn’t find anything. But what we found was bilberries and cranberries (and they are very good for Tomi - better as urine pils - but of course he doesn't like them!).
Also very nice thing was that we could use Tomi's bike here. He loved sheep we meet on the walk.
And last but not least I have to thank Katka’s parent that they give us their cottage to spent some private time. We managed to break the wash dish there, but also to repair this - at least I know how to do such a thinks now.

SK - Ducai Family

Marek parents are living very close to lake. Tomas wanted to show how he rides his bike. It was a nice visit.

SK - Dunajec

Pieniny - Raft on Dunajec river

Together with Marek parent we came to see tourist’s attraction - original wood based raft on Dunajec (river is a border between Poland and Slovakia).
Raftmans were nice young boys. One of them was trying to translate to German. Listening to this translation was more funny then original stories and jokes in native language. The raft took 1 hour - we got wet a bit but still, we survived.

IT - Grado

On the beach

Grado is a small island connected to continent. This was our 4th season here and we still like this. Sea entrance is very nice - sand based, long and slide.
Grado keeps Austrian style in everything (It is only 500 km from Vienna) but you feel also Italian temperament.
We would advice it for a families with children, handicapped or old peoples. See the link here - official Grado Link.

IT - Barbana

The way from Grado to Barbana

Brabana is a small church island for monks. There is only one cloister on it. If you are looking for a peace, quiet and you hate tourist’s stuff, then you should go there.

IT - Trieste, SLO - Postojna

Trips from Grado

During a bad weather time in Grado we made several trips. One of them was a border City - Trieste (IT-SLO). It is built in Austrian empire style. Pictures have nice dramatic feeling because there were big storm before we came there.
Slovenian Postojnska cave was also another target (see the link). It is nice there, but I was surprised with the price they offered (about 17 EUR - adult). For the same money you can visit at least 3 nicer caves in Slovakia - so if you are planning to go there then think first. Also prices in restaurants - not directly in the Tourist’s center was even higher then in Vienna. It is nice country but also very expensive.
